Planning Meeting #3 Notes – 02/26/24

02/26/24:  Another fun meeting last night!  Our Zoom call worked after a minor glitch with the audio.  In-person attendees were: Gary Schuessler, Steve Dubbs, Bryan Johnson, Kelly Holloway, Darla Luhring, David Huber, Lizz Seesing, Allen Toole and me. Zoom attendees were: Kim Eaker Brazil.

Planning Notes:

*If you or someone you know has moved or updated information since the last reunion, please let Laura Dillman Bennett or Kim Eaker Brazil know

*Kim sent out test emails the last few weeks to see if the information we have from 2019 is still good.  If you haven’t heard from her please reach out to lbbennett@yahoo.com or kab_4_3@yahoo.com.  Laura will upload the master spreadsheet to OneDrive and see if Kim has access to make updates since DropBox didn’t work for us.

Friday, July 12, 2024:

*The CHS All School Booster Club Golf Tournament will be Friday, July 12, 2024.  Allen Toole will be collecting names of those who are interested from Class of ’79 and forwarding to the tournament director. If you want to play in the tournament contact Allen as soon as possible at ATOOLE@LDD.NET (mailto:ATOOLE@LDD.NET) or text him at 573-382-7713 and let him know if you want to play in the morning or afternoon. Also let him know if you have requests to be on the same team of others in our class or others playing in the tournament from other classes. Format will be a four person scramble so those who sign up individually will be combined on a team of our classmates as best we can. The cost will be approximately $125/per person which includes golf, lunch, prizes, and usually a shirt or hat and sleeve of balls. More details to follow on start times and lunch.

*Friday Susan Richards Barnes is setting up a winery tour for Friday late morning/afternoon.  If you are interested in joining this let her know – justsusan13@hotmail.com.

*Friday evening we will gather at The Library in downtown Cape beginning at 6:00 (doors open at 4:00 if you want to start earlier). They will have food available to order and cash bar. Alan Bisher and Gary Schuessler have scheduled a band, formerly known as The Switch (Powderly twins, Marty Fowler and Darius Seabaugh), to play Friday night.

Saturday, July 13, 2024:

*Kelly gave an update on the venue/caterer/hotel:  The Buckner-Ragsdale Event Center is being renovated and we will have our Saturday night party in the lower level, called “The Cellar.”  On February 12th several of us toured the building during renovation.  The Cellar will be perfect for our venue.  Kelly is working with Top of the Marq and The Southerner to get pricing for heavy appetizers and a cash bar.  The Courtyard by Marriott on Broadway and Fairfield Inn & Suites have blocked off 10 rooms each and provided links for discount group rate reservations.  The Courtyard will be $189/night and the Fairfield will be $149/night.  These rates are good for reservations made through June 14, 2024.  Lizz is going to check with Mid-America hotels and see if we can get a block of rooms at one of their hotels, as well.

*Lizz & Kelly will work on creating a memorial display for our classmates who have passed.  Laura will send the list of deceased classmates to them.  She also has a large easel that can be used for this project, if needed.

*Kim suggested setting up an organized time for the grade school photos so everyone will know when they are being taken.  She also suggested thinking of ways to get people to mingle more.  Let us know if you have any ideas!

*If you know of any teachers you would like to invite, please do so.  Let them know they will not be charged to attend and there will be a cash bar.

*Laura will create events on Facebook for the Friday and Saturday activities.

Next meeting: Monday, March 18, 2024 at 5:30 pm at Advanced Pest Control, 530 County Road 317, Cape Girardeau, MO. We will also set up a Zoom meeting to begin at 5:45 pm and post the link on this Facebook page.
